Introducing Emilaid: Empowering People with Physical Disabilities Through Accessibility Technology.
Near the end of 2023, Emilaid came to life when our founder Vincent Ketting created a custom-made keyboard for Emily, a young girl with cerebral palsy whom he tutored. She faced problems while doing her homework or making exams on her laptop due to her hand coordination being limited. This makes executing a combination of keys for shortcuts and symbols like the shortcut for sub/superscript and the '+' sign quite difficult. The keyboard allowed her to focus on the question at hand, instead of worrying about filling in the answer.
Like Emily, there are many more in the world dealing with physical disabilities, and thus Vincent and Alex Huurman have come together as a team to work towards a common goal: providing easy accessibility solutions, so that anyone can thrive and reach their full potential.

Inspiration
"As 2023 drew to a close, I sought an opportunity to make a difference, and I found it in a remarkable young girl, Emily. For the past year, I've had the privilege of assisting Emily with her math studies. Initially, her parents approached me as Emily was facing challenges in this area. It quickly became apparent that her struggles weren't due to a lack of intelligence—Emily is exceptionally bright, consistently scoring 8/10 in most subjects.
The real hurdle was her physical condition, Cerebral Palsy, which particularly affects her ability to perform certain coordination tasks on the computer.
Realizing this, I designed a specialized keyboard tailored to her needs, simplifying mathematical computations on the computer. This innovation holds the potential to assist others facing similar challenges. I'm excited about making this tool widely available, and each chip produced will carry Emily's name—a tribute to the incredible girl who inspired this journey."
